DLP 2016 – The Unplanner Featured Member PAC

I’ve been enjoying the lazy days of summer.  Slowly taking my time to enjoy my kids being home, the lack of schedule and dare I say, sleeping in a few days a week.

Imagine my surprise when I checked my email and shining like a star was an email from Sandi Keene of the Art to the 5th Academy asking me if I would be interested in being their “Featured Member” for July.  EEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKK.  Yes Sandi – yes please.  I tried playing it cool but Sandi, Rae and Lorraine are some of my all time favorites so I might have screamed a little and texted my bestie about this fabulousness.

The theme for the PAC this week is: Start with a Black Background

I had ordered the Unplanner Kit way back when I signed up for this project so I thought the black tags would be a great place to start.

In my mind I was picturing a starry night with a little mixed media home set on a rolling hill of different variations of green.  My first step was to get my gelli plate out and load it up with every green I own.  I’m a HUGE fan of the gelli plate and use it in almost all of my projects and my art journal.

Using a brayer I blended the greens on the gelli plate.  I cut a small wave out of a scrap piece of cardstock and used that as a template for my grassy knoll.  After my hill was set I added midnight blue paint to my gelli plate and loosely stamped the “sky” portion of my PAC leaving some of the original black peeking through.  I then covered my grassy hill and used a splatter technique with white paint to make the tiny stars.

As the background was drying I began to piece together my tiny house.  I had some scrap background pages laying around and used that as the larger part of my home.  I used a gelli plate on an old book page to make the windows and doors.  The roof was made from old manila shipping tags.

I slanted the roof to add a little character.  Every week I create two PAC’s.  One to keep and one I send to my bestie who is also a member of DLP 2016.

Once the little house was dry, I glued it onto the background with a UHU glue stick.

I pictured bigger stars in the sky hanging from tiny strings.  I create a lot of projects with hearts.  Especially hearts made from under paper.  I really wanted my personal style to come through in the PAC so I cut tiny under paper hearts and glued them in the sky.

Finally I pulled out Rosie my antique Singer Sewing machine and began adding the final touches. The grassy hill received some zig zag texture.  I added a torn piece of a book page at the bottom.  The heart stars received their life line strings and I stitched all around the edges of my tag.  I hand drew scallops on all my hearts and added a few marks made from tiny bubble wrap.  The home also received some TLC by way of lines, edges, scallops and scribbles.

And last but certainly not least – I hand stamped the word “home” on a tiny piece of muslin and gave it a quick stitch to adhere it to the PAC.  Torn fabric as the tie and this little home is complete.

Thank you so much for reading.  I hope you enjoyed this little “how to” and I look forward to seeing what you create!  You can find me and lots of my projects on Instagram: soul_positive

Thank you so much Julie. I was hoping that sooner or later my actual style would come out or at least show itself to me. xoxo
